It is one of the most beginner-friendly rivers anywhere in the world! Join our experienced and patient guides for a fun, educational day on the water—we’ll help you catch more fish and build your skills as an angler.

Target Species

The Lower Sacramento River is all about our robust populations of Rainbow Trout & Steelhead. Our season breaks down with the following seasons:

Spring (March–May):
This is one of the best times to fish the Lower Sacramento River. Vibrant midday Brachycentrus Caddis hatches create excellent dry fly opportunities, often leading to high numbers of fish caught.

Summer (June–August):
Despite the heat, the river stays cool, keeping the fish active. Afternoon Hydropsyche Caddis hatches offer strong fishing, with occasional chances to fish dry flies.

Fall (September–November):
Fall is another prime time for trout and steelhead. Chinook Salmon runs this time of year can be hit or miss – when they are around the Rainbow Trout feast on loose eggs. Fresh Steelhead enter the river this time of year as well, adding excitement—especially on lower river floats.

Winter (December–February):
The river quiets down, offering solitude to hardy anglers. Winter storms bring late-run Chinook Salmon and strong Baetis hatches, along with the chance to hook large Rainbow Trout feeding aggressively.

Where We Fish

With over 40 miles of productive trout water accessible year-round, it’s easy to find solitude on the Lower Sacramento River. Few trout fisheries in the Lower 48 can match the size and abundance of wild trout found here. Most fish average 16–17 inches, and it’s common to encounter trout over 20 inches on a typical day.

The distance we float depends on factors like trip length, river flows, and your fishing goals. Most half-day and full-day trips cover 6–7 miles. Before your trip, our team will connect with you to go over location options and tailor the day to your preferences.
