Cabin Fever… Fly Fishing the Upper Sacramento River & Lake Grace (Shingletown, CA)

Had to get out of the house and away from the fly tying desk.   Visited the Upper Sac and Lake Grace (outside of Shingletown, CA) to fly fish for rainbow trout.

Upper Sacramento River Fly Fishing – record rain year 2016-2017As you can see… The Upper Sac was BIG and off color (water was too big to fish (from La Moine – State Park) … but I did collect drift wood).   Apparently we are experiencing the wettest year on record in California for the past 122 years (read more).   I’m ready for sunshine.

If you’re a drift wood collector… this will be a record year!  (always gotta look at the bright side and appreciate what we have :))

Grace Lake was quiet… I saw one other angler and an active Osprey diving for brown trout on the surface.

Fishing was even tough for the Osprey.   The midge hatch was solid (silver/back #18 or #20 but the #20’s we’re hard to keep fish on… I had 7 opps 1 landed).
