Cro is a great guide and a better human. Here is my Cro story: a few years ago, my neighbor's son was battling Leukemia. It was a tough fight and the treatments took quite a bit out of him. Meanwhile, he was a trout short of an Eagle Scout badge.... So, during a lull in his treatment when his strength was on the upswing, another dad and I decided to take him fishing with a buddy to see if we could take his mind of things for a day and help him get his E.S. badge. There were two guides that day and while doing the shuttle, I explained the situation to the guides......the day was 100% about getting this kid a fish on a fly and nothing else really mattered. The kid was pretty hollowed out. The treatments had been long and brutal. The reaction time was diminished. The fast twitch wasn't too twitchy. Failure was a real possibility, perhaps even a likelihood. Steve didn't hesitate, he wanted the boys in his boat.I have never seen a guide work harder. Steve back-rowed like a maniac, lapping the good water over and over again. He re-tied rigs. He gave that kid every chance. Slow hook sets and missed fish didn't even dent Steve's positivity; he gave the kid the coaching required but never, not once, not for a second let that kid think he was doing anything wrong.And, about 3:00, after Steve had probably burned 4000 calories rowing, the kid got his fish. Still puts a smile on my face every time I think of that day. Still in awe of Steve's performance that day.Patience, kindness, determination, skill, and fishiness. You get it all with Steve. Can't recommend him highly enough.read more

It has been an absolute pleasure to fish with MoJoBella. With friends and family, I have fished with Steve several times. It is always a joy. His patients and willingness to teach my father who has never fished with a fly rod and see the smile of... my dad holding up his first Rainbow is a memory I'll always cherish. Steve is a very knowledgeable river guide and knows every inch of the Sacramento River. Most importantly, my wife had never had a fly rod in her hand let alone gone drift fishing. Steve worked tirelessly to instruct her and would not rest until she... finally landed her first trout after 6 hours. He made our float a very special experience for us and I look forward to booking another trip with him.read more

I have been out with Steve several times and consider him one of the best, most personable and knowledgable guides I know. He seems to not just want you to catch fish, but to help you become a better fisherman. If you want a great day on the river you need to hook up with Steve. He’ll put you on fish, but there is so much more. What ever water you cover you’ll not only learn much about fishing but also the river, the countryside and some history of the... area. You’ll also feel at ease and welcome from the minute you meet, have some good laughs, hear good stories and by the end of the day you have a new friend. Steve is awesome. Knows the rivers incredibly well and is a fantastic teacher if you’re looking to sharpen your technique. He’s full of good energy and knowledge. I’ve been 3 times with him on the northern Sacramento and McCloud.
